In the aftermath of the Yuuzhan Vong Invasion, the Imperial Remnant had become a resurgent power, a mid-level state on the galactic map with a formidable, battle-hardened military.

But its reliance on the Imperial and Victory-class Star Destroyers which had been the mainstay of the Imperial Navy for half a century had started to run its course, and new designs were called for.

The Empire needed a fleet of modern, advanced, compact warships which had learned the lessons from the conflict with the Vong, able to compete with the newest Mon Calamari, Corellian, Kuati and Fondorian designs.

It particularly needed classes of ships able to deliver its next generation starfighters, the TIE Starhunter and the TIE Starbomber into battle. As peers and potential competitor states began to fields advanced Aleph-heavy starfighters, A-10 Interceptors, Owools and the like. The age of the humble TIE Fighter, and the venerable Imperial II, was well and truly over.

In came the Turbulent-class pocket Star Destroyer and, in Age of Legends, the Screed-class heavy carrier and Titan-class heavy Star Destroyer. It is the Screed-class that is the focus for today’s post.

The mighty heavy carrier is named after Admiral Terrinald Screed, the hero of the Galactic Republic and the early Empire. He fought alongside Jan Dodonna commanding the Victory Fleet during the Clone Wars, and he was instrumental in defeating Separatist Holdouts and other resistance groups during the Reconquest of the Rim in the years immediately following the Declaration of the New Order.

Screed would ultimately be murdered by Warlord Zsinj, and he would be remembered fondly by his contemporary, Grand Admiral Gilad Pellaeon. Hence the use of the class name ‘Screed’ in Age of Legends lore for the Empire’s newest carrier.

It has vast hangars for housing its 12 squadrons: split into 6 TIE Starhunter squadrons and 6 TIE Starbomber squadrons. It fills the role taken historically by the older Secutor and Impellor classes.

Today I want to talk about how this class will honour a rich tradition of Imperial fighter aces with the release of the TOTAL IMMERSION content pack later this week…
