I have really exciting news today, with the introduction of a brand new playable ship coming to Age of Legends! And a new format of article.
The CR-92a was a mainstay of 1990s era space sim games. Not only is it finally coming to the mod, but it will appear for multiple different factions across both Age of Legends mods, and fulfil a unique gameplay role.
This new Fact File post will give an overview of the CR-92a, its key stats, lore, and how it matches up to other Corellian corvettes. Plus, where to find it in-game when the content pack drops.
This is - to my knowledge - also the first time the CR-92a has been a playable craft in any Empire at War mod.
Lore background:
Before the days of every Disney Imperial fleet consisting of ISDs, Arquitens and Gozantis… Imperial fleets were varied and featured countless specialised ships. Few Imperial task forces looked exactly the same.
One striking feature of Expanded Universe fleets is the prevalence of ships more commonly associated with the Rebel Alliance. Imperial task forces included CR90 corvettes, Nebulon-B frigates, DP20 gunships to name but a few.
The CR-92a was one of many Corellian corvette and other designs built to serve in the Imperial Navy. It was a more militarised successor to the stock CR90, with greater hull strength and offensive firepower. It is visibly stockier and more bulky than its older predecessor.
During the insurrection of Grand Admiral Demetrius Zaarin, the CR-92a was used extensively for hit-and-fade attacks on loyalist Imperial forces. A role in which it excelled. The craft was used heavily by the Imperial Navy for a range of different missions…
