Essential Guide #9: Against The Odds
Learn how to beat 'unbeatable' Galactic Conquest campaigns using early New Republic strategies, unconventional fleet tactics, and entrenched land bases.
In the years after the Battle of Endor, Admiral Ackbar had to turn the guerilla forces of the Rebel Alliance into a conventional military, able to take and hold large territories. How did he do that? And how can YOU win in hugely asymmetric campaigns?
Read on. Because in this article I’ll show you how to use the strategies of the early New Republic to beat supposedly impossible scenarios in any era of the game.
(While this guide utilises the strategy of the New Republic, its principles can apply to any faction in Age of Legends, or any other Empire at War mod.)
After Action Report: The Battle of N’Zoth
One of the hardest campaigns for the Galactic Alliance faction takes place in 28 ABY and focuses on the worlds of the Duskhan League in the core. In this scenario a small Galactic Alliance expeditionary force is struggling to survive in a highly inhospitable region, surrounded by enemies. Picture the situation for the Galactic Alliance player:
You start with isolated fleets of 1 or 2 capital ships each with light support, and rudimentary ground forces.
You face TWO extremely dangerous rivals, who are each more powerful than you.
So how did I take these isolated forces, unite them, and ultimately - over a long, difficult campaign - win?
Whether you’re the late Empire fighting to cling-on, a warlord with a precarious hold on your worlds, or an insurgent new power, you CAN win… with the power of ASSERT.
Defeating A Hegemonic Power: ASSERT
In a situation where you are leading a much smaller faction on the Galactic map, there are some general principles you can follow that will lead to ultimate victory. I’ve called this the ASSERT doctrine.
