Essential Guide #3: Four Fun Things To Try This Weekend
Always end up playing as the Empire? Stuck in a gameplay rut? Here are four fun and original things to try in Age of Legends you might not have done before.
Play Jedi Outcast… in Empire at War
The 2002 game Jedi Outcast is rightly remembered as an all-time classic, one of the best Star Wars games ever made. But did you know you can play through its story in the Age of Legends mod for Empire at War?
In this time period the mercenary Kyle Katarn, having forsaken his Jedi heritage, finds himself taking up his lightsaber once again when his partner Jan Ors is taken captive by the Dark Jedi Desann and an Imperial faction.
The plot of the classic Jedi Outcast game (and its sequel, Jedi Academy) has been painstakingly recreated in the ‘12-14 ABY: Jedi Outcast’ Galactic Conquest scenario… You can even play as Desann and Tavion’s group and play out an alternate history where Kyle Katarn and Jan Ors are killed and the Empire triumphs.
Complete Thrawn’s Original Mission…
… and conquer the Unknown Regions for the Empire. This was the original task of Grand Admiral Thrawn, given to him by the Emperor. Now it is your mission!
Play as the Empire of the Hand in the ‘4-8 ABY: Ascendant Powers’ GC. On this map – which spans the entire Unknown Regions – you will be facing off against the region’s traditional power, the Chiss Ascendancy, and myriad hostile alien threats.
By this time, Thrawn has already planted various Imperial colonies throughout the Unknown Regions, but it will take a military mastermind to unite them and forge a new, better Empire. Once that task is done, head to Helska IV in the far galactic north, and see what fearsome invader awaits you. (You might need this guide to help you survive against the threat that is coming…)
Lead An Alien Revolution Against The Empire…
… in the ‘4 ABY: Yevethan Uprising’ scenario. Introduced in the Black Fleet Crisis novels as an antagonist for Princess Leia’s New Republic, the Yevetha are a hostile and xenophobic race bent on a war of extermination. But before they were unleashed onto the Galaxy, the Yevetha were a subject race of the Empire, kept as slaves in immense shipyards.
As this scenario starts, word of the Emperor’s death at Endor is spreading throughout the Galaxy, and the former slaves rise up and size the eponymous Black Fleet, taking countless Star Destroyers, and some Super Star Destroyers. You can help these aliens win their freedom, or else suppress their revolution and secure this vital region for an Empire that has been plunged into chaos.
Command A Joint New Republic-Imperial Fleet
By the time of the Yuuzhan Vong Invasion the war between the former Rebellion and the Empire had ended in a peace accord. As the aliens stormed through the Outer Rim, the two old enemies came together as allies, and the novel Dark Tide II: Ruin gave readers the spectacle of a joint New Republic-Imperial fleet, commanded by Imperial leader Admiral Pellaeon, defending a New Republic world.
You can play through this remarkable piece of Star Wars lore in the ‘25 ABY: Battle for Ithor’ campaign. Playing as the Imperial Remnant, you will start with a significant New Republic fleet, Jedi heroes, and New Republic military assets – all pledged to follow your commands as Pellaeon is recognised as the highest-ranked military officer present.
