Dev Diary #41: How close did the New Republic come to civil war?
A sneak peak at what's coming up in this assortment of random, cool things I've been working on for v1.34!
Welcome back to Age of Legends: The Essential Guide, the must-have players’ resource for our community of 35,000 players. I rely on paid subscriptions and reader donations to make my content creation and modding possible. In return, you get exclusive access to content previews like this one - and much more!
As the gigantic New Republic news post I planned has been delayed I thought I’d treat subscribers to a preview of some random bits and bobs you can all look forward to! This post doesn’t really have a common theme, but it includes some new units, some fun roster previews, gameplay screenshots and more.
It also includes some thoughts on the Thrawn trilogy, which I’ve just re-read for the first time in years, and on just how fragile the New Republic actually was. That will have implications for the future of the mod…
Putting this together I realized just how massive v1.34 is going to be. There’s stuff in here I did a year ago that I’d completely forgotten about. It makes the current public build look very old. Anyway, enjoy!
The MC20 Mon Calamari corvette!
This is a really fun little ship that actually appears *very briefly* in Return of the Jedi but was forgotten about until EC Henry rediscovered it.
It’s between a CR90 and a Nebulon-B in length, and I’ve interpreted it as a small civilian survey vessel that was converted into a screening ship for the Mon Cal’s big MC80s during the Galactic Civil War.
I’ve added this to the New Republic and Galactic Alliance as an indigenous build option from Mon Calamari, but it will be really helpful in future when the Dac Council (i.e. the government of Mon Calamari) become a playable faction in their own right. Because while the Mon Cals have a lot of ship types, they skew towards the larger Star Cruisers.
Now though, we have the MC20 corvette, a beefed-up and actually useful MC30 torpedo ship, the MC40 (which will now feature multiple variants) and the MC60 medium cruiser. As well as 3 variants of the B-wing of course. The MC20 fills the last hole in the Mon Cal unit lineup, and makes a fully Mon Calamari faction perfectly viable.
Why do we need one? You might ask. Well…
