Hello there! A quick bonus post today as I want to share this incredible fan adaptation of Dark Empire with all Essential Guide subscribers.

Made by SpikeyTortoise, the excellent film covers the first third (roughly) of the Dark Empire comic, from the rescue mission to Coruscant, Luke’s meeting with the reborn Emperor, through to the Battle of Mon Calamari.

It is absolutely brilliant, faithfully recreating the stylised art of the comic and using the sound and voices of the 1994 audiodrama. I strongly recommend!

While thinking about all things Dark Empire, I thought I’d give a quick rundown of my Dark Empire era content.

The mod currently contains four Dark Empire themed Galactic Conquest (GC) scenarios…

There is the ‘10 ABY: Imperial Mutiny’ GC which shows the post-Thrawn coalition of Imperial forces targeting the Core. Then there is the ‘10-11 ABY: Dark Empire’ GC adapting the events of the comics in meticulous details.

The smaller ‘10 ABY: Emperor’s Revenge’ scenario focuses in on the Emperor’s attack on Mon Calamari with the World Devastators. That scenario is probably the best introduction for new players to the era, as it’s of a manageable scale, and you don’t have the same overwhelming numbers of Imperial Super Star Destroyers to contend with as the New Republic.

Finally we have the Infinities ‘25 ABY: Dark Vector’ GC that imagines if the clone Emperor had been victorious and it was the Dark Empire that had to face the Yuuzhan Vong invasion instead of the New Republic.

Substantial new content is present in each of these GCs in v1.34, and I’m getting really excited to share that as the beta approaches. Subscribers will be the first to know about that!

I’ve also published two short stories that serve as prequels to Dark Empire. The first is an immediate lead-in to Dark Empire, showing the last flight of the Star Destroyer Liberator as it crash lands on Coruscant, barely saved by Luke Skywalker’s powerful Jedi abilities… echoing the feat performed by his father Anakin at the end of the Clone Wars.

And I wrote this slightly earlier story about the main characters from X-wing Alliance in the weeks before Dark Empire, test flying a captured A-9 Vigilance, only to come under attack by a strange new force.
